A Day in the Life of UCU: This is what we do.

The University and College Union (UCU) represents more than 120,000 academics, lecturers, trainers, instructors, researchers, managers, administrators, computer staff, librarians and postgraduates in universities, colleges, prisons, adult education and training organisations across the UK.

UCU is the largest post-school union in the world: a force working for educators and education that employers and the government cannot ignore.

It was formed on 1 June 2006 by the amalgamation of two strong partners – the Association of University Teachers (AUT) and NATFHE-the University & College Lecturers’ Union – who shared a long history of defending and advancing educators’ employment and professional interests.

Briefing at Bristol University on the new HE Negotiating Pack

Paul Bridge presents the new HE Negotiating Pack

Officers from South West Region, Wales and Gloucestershire recently attended a briefing at Bristol University on the new HE Negotiating Pack. The pack has been produced so that UCU lay officers are freed up to engage in local bargaining whilst having to hand clear guidance on National Policy. The packs  were presented by Paul Bridge who developed the materials and Dominique Lauterburg (NEC member). Dominique will sit on the newly formed National Ratification Panel (NRP) which will consider where local negotiations  impact on national policy. It is expected that the new resources and arrangements will considerably improve the speed and efficiency of negotiating at local level and allow lay officers to strike the best deals possible for their members.
